It is a well-known fact that communities in the Northeast take a tremendous amount of pride in where they live and are continuously doing things to make this one of the best regions in the country to live. One of the best ways to increase property value and the curb appeal of your home – install a fence. Whether it is a decorative fence or a privacy, it is guaranteed to add value (both aesthetically and financially) to your home. Regardless of the town you live in, every town has their own rules and regulations. While sometimes frustrating, these rules are meant for safety and to upkeep community standards. So, before you install your fence, it is important to be aware of your specific towns rules and regulations.
Depending on where you live, the height of your fence affects whether or not you need prior approval. When a city inspector measures a fence, they do so from the base of the fence posts to the top of the fence. Sometimes require permits for multiple different heights while other towns only require permits for fences over a certain height. Either way, it is important to know for sure and get all proper documentation in order prior to having your fence installed. Failure to get the proper certification for your project will result in the stoppage of work and possible fines.
Another factor is property lines. You may already have a survey of your property that shows all of your property lines, in which case – that is great and we can work with what you already have. If not, that is also fine – we can refer you to a professional surveyor. Different towns have different setback laws; meaning how far your fence has to be set back from your property lines. The best way to go about this is to get a survey done and take that to your towns zoning department and ask them about setback regulations.
